About Blue Web Northwest

Blue Web Northwest has been in operation since July 2005, although it has just recently been named (not officially yet). It is a sole-proprietorship, owned and operated by me, Lisa Bradley. I perform work on a contract-basis from my home. I will gladly meet with you at your place of business to discuss your website needs.

My business offerings currently consist of static websites programmed with the current standard of XHTML and CSS. Most of my clients are small companies or individuals with very limited technology experience and who need a small and simple website. Their websites are generally informational in nature. Everything I do is designed to make the process simple and affordable for this type of client.

Short-term Goals: My primary goal is customer satisfaction. I currently maintain a number of websites that I have already developed, and am in the process of developing a few more. You can view these websites on my portfolio page. My short-term goal is to keep providing what my clients need and want in a reasonable timeframe and at an affordable cost.

Long-term Goals: I am currently studying how to incorporate more advanced programming into the web systems I develop. My goal is to grow in offering dynamic and database-driven web systems by the middle of 2008. I have also recently studied search engine optimization and would like to grow in offering better website marketing opportunities.

Web Hosting/Domain Registration

Blue Web can help you determine your website hosting and domain registration requirements and help set up those services. I have a list of good web hosting companies from which you may make a selection. Most hosting companies will include the domain registration (web site address) for your site, and many also offer email accounts. However, I will not make payment on or maintain your website hosting or domain registration accounts. That is your responsibility.

Programming Languages

I currently use a programming language called XHTML for the websites I build. I will use the current World Wide Web Consortium standards (www.w3c.org) to make your web system readable and accessible to all major user agents (web browsers, mobile phones, and personal data assistants). Using these standards will allow me to keep the content of your web system separate from the formatting. I will place all the content into standardized XHTML files and will use another language called Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to format and design your web system. (For more explanation, please contact me.)

Dynamic Websites & Database Management Systems

I am not currently offering dynamic website programming (PHP/ASP), database management systems or e-commerce services with my websites. I am in the process of expanding my company to include these services. When they do become available, you will be offered the opportunity of adding these services to your existing site. This will be made available through an upgrade contract. If your website requires JavaScript, I am currently able to incorporate some of this programming, but the cost will be additional from the basic static page programming fee.

Maintenance/File Archiving

In addition to creating your web system, I offer continued maintenance plans. Creating your web system with XHTML and CSS requires someone who is familiar with those programming languages to make changes. It is very common to require updates to your system after initial installation. Should you choose to have me make such changes after the initial installation process, I will generate another contract regarding those services.

My file changing/archiving process is as follows: When I make updates to your web system, I will overwrite the current files (if changes are small). If there is a major change in the design or content of your web system, I will keep a copy of the old files for one year (as long as I have a maintenance contract with you) in case you ever want to refer to or revert back to a previous version. When you decide to end your contract with me (either immediately after your web system is installed or after I have been maintaining it), I will store the files offline for one year. After one year with no contract, I reserve the right to delete the old files.

Warranty/Source Code Policy

I guarantee my web systems to work as intended for as long as you maintain a current contract with me and I am the sole individual accessing and working with the files. It is the policy of Blue Web to be the sole holder of the rights to access your source code (the programming used to create your web system) for as long as you maintain a contract with me.  If you decide to allow access to your files by another individual/company, I can no longer guarantee the functionality of the web system.

Upon termination of all contracts, I will provide a copy of your web files, at your request. There will be no warranty on the functionality of the web system once I no longer have a contract with you. When my contract with you ends, you will be the owner of your web system files and may do what you wish with them.

License Agreements, Renewal and Upgrades

Should you decide to use my company for your web development needs, I will create a contract with you regarding the services I offer and costs. After the initial development and installation of the web system, I have maintenance and upgrade agreements available.

Data Security/Disaster Recovery

Upon initial set up of your web system, I suggest using a web hosting company with a good security infrastructure. I recommend that you use one of my preferred web hosting companies as I have researched their backup/recovery systems. In the event of a disaster, your web system will be recoverable. I will also be keeping a copy of your files locally on my computer with regular backups.

Training/Ongoing Support

Since your entire web system will be created and maintained by Blue Web, not much training will be required. I will gladly answer any questions regarding basic web terminology and concepts. I will further discuss domain names, web servers, XHTML and CSS.

After your web system is installed, I will review it with you so that you can see exactly how it will be used by your visitors and what options you have for continued services. Should you need further assistance, please contact me. I strive to be available to you and respond within a timely manner for any support needed.

Implementation Plan

My website development projects follow a specific step-by-step process, which will be tailored to meet each individual’s needs. It is important to know when beginning a website development project that the planning and design phases of the project take longer than actually coding the site. We will determine all your website requirements and document what you want out of your website and why before the website is actually built.

The general process and timeframe for building a 5-10 page website are as follows:

Step 1: Web Planning

Discuss your needs and desires for your web system, including content, general layout/navigation, and design.

1-2 weeks

Step 2: Web Mock-up & Design

Finalize navigation with a site diagram and create a layout/design mock-up of your web system for you to review.

2-6 weeks

Step 3: Feedback

You will give me feedback regarding the mock-up, which I will incorporate.

1-2 weeks

Step 4: Web Development

I will create the wire frame structure of the website for you to review. Once it is approved, I will add content.
